Orgelfrühling Steiermark invites you to a festive concert for trumpet and organ at the Wallfahrtskirche Maria Straßengel — renowned for its striking location, Gothic architecture, and outstanding acoustics.

The French composer Olivier Messiaen wrote the four symphonic meditations L’Ascension for orchestra for the feast of the Ascension. He later created a version for solo organ, from which the two central movements will be performed in Maria Straßengel — depicting the soul’s joyful ascent toward heaven.

The programme by Jürgen Ellensohn, recently appointed professor of trumpet at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, and Michael Schöch, professor of organ at the Tyrolean State Conservatory, moves between quiet meditation and radiant euphoria. Familiar melodies and unexpected discoveries combine to form a varied programme ranging from the Baroque to the present day.
