Sehnsucht

Poetry and Organ Music
Thursday, 23.04.26 - 20:00

The Orgelfrühling Steiermark Opening Concert in der Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Graz is dedicated to the theme of longing ('Sehnsucht').

With works ranging from Johann Sebastian Bach to the present day, Gunther Rost creates a richly nuanced panorama of musical emotional worlds on the historic Walcker organ. Two young actresses, Amelie Steinweiß and Anne Sophie Vogel (University of Music and Performing Arts Graz), recite poetry on desire, pain, hope, and distance — from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and William Shakespeare to Ingeborg Bachmann, Else Lasker-Schüler and Mascha Kaléko. The familiar enters into dialogue with the unexpected, moving between quiet intimacy and expressive outburst.

Thus, music and poetry intertwine in a mutual search ways for ways to express that deep longing which has always driven us and continues to touch our hearts.
