Hollenegg Castle

Hollenegg Castle, one of the most beautiful castles throughout Styria, is located in the town of Bad Schwanberg.

Peter Rosegger, a famous Styrian poet and writer, once described his impression as follows: The dream castle of Hollenegg seems to float above the rolling hills of our "kingdom of heaven", like a precious historical ship loaded with the irreplaceable goods of human efficacy

With a fortress built around 1200, the Renaissance-style complex grew around several residential wings and inner courtyards. Inside the listed castle is the parish church of St Aegidius with an organ dating from 1778.

As the castle is privately owned, the public rarely has the opportunity to admire the banqueting hall in the north wing, which was designed by Philipp Carl Laubmann in 1750 and features a ceiling painting by Felix Barazutti from 1885 depicting Greek deities.
